Q & A
Q: How do you start your day?
First of all, I want to wake up naturally (sweet smile!). After getting up, I will drink a large cup of warm water, followed by coffee. Then I check my emails and work messages. Next, I organize the color palette from the previous night and start painting.
Q: Where do you usually hang out the most?
For four to five days a week, I go for a run in the nearby riverside park in the evening. Watching the sunset glow always makes me feel calm.
Q: What is your most frequented restaurant?
After running in the evening, I go to the Yumin Street Night Market in Banqiao for dinner inspiration! It's on the way home, with many choices and delicious food. I don't have a fixed dish; I usually try to find something I haven't eaten before. There are stalls selling carrot juice or star fruit juice, which I think are quite good!
Q: What is your entertainment after work?
Because I am a full-time artist, life and work are intertwined, making it difficult for me to define what "off work" means. Before the pandemic, after completing a batch of works, I would go to a nearby second-run cinema to watch movies all day. Now, I watch a bit of streaming platform videos every day before going to sleep.
Q: With the rapid advancements in AI technology, many works can be created in a short time. Do you think AI will replace artists?
It is hard to say what will happen in the future, but for now, it seems unlikely. However, perhaps the history of human art will change due to the involvement of AI, just as the emergence of photography two hundred years ago changed the history of art.
Q: What advice do you have for emerging artists when their income is unstable and they cannot balance ideals with making a living?
If you have to work, then go to work. Survival is very important!! For most artists who are still in the struggling phase, finding a part-time job to earn a living while nurturing their creativity is a necessary path.
Q: What is a book you have read recently? What insights or thoughts do you have after finishing it?
Recently, I have been reading "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind," which discusses how the evolution and changes of humanity from ancient times to the present have transformed our way of life. I am also rereading Haruki Murakami's novels, as his stable, delicate, and somewhat fantastical writing style is somewhat similar to the works I want to express recently.
Q: What do you think is the most interesting place in Taiwan or what attracts you to it?
Night markets! When night falls, you can find all kinds of novel and interesting things inside.
Q: What do you look forward to the most when staying at a hotel?
When staying at a new location and taking a walk nearby, I always feel like I can embark on a new life or participate in a new experience. No matter how many times, it always invigorates my spirit.
Q: What is your impression of the hotels under the Taipei Hotel Group?
Very high quality~ Especially the team handling the artworks, who seek out excellent art pieces to decorate the hotels and respect the artists' ideas during the communication process. This is really rare! Of course, I am also very grateful that this collaboration has made us good friends!
